As with a lot of my other paintings representing particular occasions or places, 'Piccadilly' is no exception and is particularly
special to me. In 1998 I was extremely lucky to have a painting selected and hung at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. We went to London to the private view. It was late afternoon, a lovely, hot sunny day as we walked through central London. My painting (Cup of Cherries) had already sold, apparently at a dinner/preview the previous evening. Afterwards, as we sat in the courtyard drinking coffee in the warm evening sun, 'Piccadilly' began to form in my mind. The deep blue background is the sky, the oranges the sun. The vase represents all the lovely items in the shops in Regent Street and the silk scarf is the one I bought in Oxford Street on our way to Piccadilly and the RA exhibition.
